Holland Casino Amsterdam

Casino Poker

There is regular poker tournaments at the Holland Casino in Amsterdam on tuesdays, wednesdays and thursdays starting from around 8:30 pm. The buy-in is €60,- and players have the choice of unlimitted rebuys for the first hour. The size of the tournament is up to a maximum of 80 players with 10 players on the table which is 2 less than at the cash games. Players who made it to the final table of 9 players start to earn some of the money back that players have chiped into the tournaments pot. The winner can take up to €6.000,- depending on how many players took part on the tournament and how many rebuys went through the bank.

The Poker Room

The poker room is often a very crowed place, the number of players seems to get bigger and bigger as live poker just like online poker is constantly growing in popularity in Holland and especially in the capital Amsterdam. If you arrive any time for a cash game, the liklyhood that you first need to wait before you can actually play is very high. The poker room is quite small compared to the rest of the entire casino! Slot maschines for example are scattered on two floors all over the place but hardly ever used, perhaps 20% of them are used on a common night. The casino owners could easily clear out one of these slot maschine rooms and add another 20 poker tables, and would bet €100,- every night that all these additional poker tables would be fully placed with enthusiatic and money greedy poker players. Whether that would increase the casino's profit to the same extent is a different question. In other words would 80 poker players make the casino more money than 5 or 6 slot players every night? Propably yes.
There is a max number of 12 players at any cash game poker table and usually the seats a all taken so when playing especially as a beginner is a bit tricky. Quite a bit of noice due to the number of people in the basement room, but also playing against 11 other players makes it very hard to guess each and everybody's hand and therefore even harder to develop and pursue your poker strategy. Also be careful with guessing a bluff! With 12 players on the same poker table the likelihood that someone does have a good or at least intermediate hand is fairly high. But than again players do bluff a lot especially after winning a bigger pot so its really hard to find your game whatever strategy you might have had in mind. The only once that do win all the time for sure are certainly the dealers or the bank.

Poker Tips

Players that win up and then the pot intent to tip the dealer sometimes really heavyly. I personally never understood why so much as this money never goes directly to that specific dealer anyways but disapears in a slot next to him built into the poker table. Jesus may know where this money really goes. Perhaps shared by all dealers at the end of the month. But then each time you think giving a tip to the a specific dealer you really thought you liked or you thought that gave you a good hand to win the pot and you want to reward that dealer with that tip, you in fact tip all the other dealers as well, even those you might hate or dislike. What a nonsense!

Friendly Poker Games

Friendly Games: What that means is that poker players play mainly for the fun of the game rather than trying scope out every other players smallest weakness with the only aim to take all his money or chips as fast as possible. So what you possible will find when joining a poker game at the Holland Casino Amsterdam is in addition to the large number of player on the table a beginner will find that not all players are so called "friendly gamers" or "friendly players". I personally had the feeling that a larege majority of the players I played within the last month are actually dead serious about the game and really upsad when they are loosing on the one hand and quite aggressive as soon as they had a winning hand.

The Dealers

Well, some of them are friendly and very good but after I had played for one month every second night or so I found that others are less great. I think it was at the third night or so when I had a dealer that made a couple of mistakes within a short period of time. E.g. When you playing a 2/2 game and run out of 2 Euro chips to simple put down a 10 Euro chip as a big or small blind, which is both two euro at this casino, but when you throw your cards away, fold, or loose or whatever make sure the dealer always changes you back the remaining 8 euro. The dealer I had at that third night did not and I had to remind him of doing his job correct. Well, that's just one example and I could put down a few others. The Holland Casino Amsterdam has about 50% lady poker dealers and sometimes I had the feeling that most of them are actually better dealing than the men. Anyway, always be attentive no matter what you are playing or who the dealer is. They are humans, and humans make mistakes (as they told me when I caught them and complained) especially when it is a mistake in their favour as I never witnessed a mistake they did that wasn't in the bank's favour. You could say that's strange or you could say that's by chance and luck just like roulette.
